Setting a clear and sincere intention is like magic. It is not passive and requires us to put some personal oomph into actualizing them. Like all good things, we should always revisit our rituals to ensure they are best serving us and helping us feel most in tune with our purpose.
We sat down with Founder and CEO of DERMAFLASH, Dara Levy, to talk about how she is bringing oomph and intention into her skincare and wellness rituals.

Where are you based and what do you do for work?
I am the founder of DERMAFLASH and work in Chicago. DERMAFLASH is revolutionizing skincare by empowering people to take beauty treatments into their own hands, on their own schedules, in the comfort of home.
What are some examples of rituals that help you feel your best + achieve your life’s purpose?
Every night before I go to sleep, I thank the universe for the health, happiness, safety and love that my children, husband, mother and myself will enjoy in life. And every morning before I get out of bed, I thank the universe for the amazing day I am about to have.
When did you start doing these?
I am not really sure, but at least 5 years ago. In general, I don’t have rituals per se. I try to walk every day and during these walks I give gratitude for the tiniest and most major things, be it my very ability to walk, a lovely flower or just a clear sky.
How do you keep these rituals alive and strong (especially during hard times or heading into a new chapter)?
I guess habit has helped me keep my little rituals, but I believe wholeheartedly that we manifest our own realities. I try to live my life from a place of positivity and gratitude. It’s not always easy but I know when I veer off course life does not feel as good.
In 2020, we were “forced” - to be more self-reflective and slow down. What rituals did you incorporate into your life during this changing time? Are there any you want to bring with you in 2021.
COVID has been such a universal event and I would say the only time in history that literally everyone on the planet is experiencing the same thing at the same time. We are all so truly connected. I am grateful for the opportunity this downtime has given me to reflect on what truly matters. For me 2020 has given me an amazing opportunity to reflect and think about what the rest of my life should look like. Prior to the pandemic I was on a plane almost every week, to the point that I would have to wake up and think for a moment before I realized where it was I was waking up. I am truly so grateful for the break I have had. I have started cooking and also fell back in love with reading. I know I will travel less and make more time for my family and friends…and me more than I have in the past. I will strive to balance my life with work, play and personal growth instead of work always coming first.
Do you practice gratitude?
Every day and every moment. The more grateful you are the more life gives you to be grateful for. The book the Power by Rhonda Byrne is my bible. I work to manifest positivity constantly.
What do you now know about yourself that you’ve learned from practicing wellness rituals?
The better you are to yourself, the more you have to give to others.
Has setting mindful intentions shaped or affected your rituals?
Yes, setting intentions is so important. I have had a vision board for years and it is truly a magical practice. I focus on things I want to happen, and once I print it up and pin it on, I let it go and leave it to the universe. For me, this practice serves as a manifestation of almost everything I desire, and you wouldn’t believe the incredible things that have come to fruition as a result.
